Introducing The Cress Book Club: How Selling Clothes Can Help Improve Children’s Literacy Skills

Did you know that nearly 1 in 5 children in the UK leave primary school unable to read fluently? This startling statistic highlights the importance of literacy skills and the need for initiatives to help improve children’s reading abilities.

How the The Cress Book Club Works

At Cress, we believe in the power of books and reading, which is why we are launching our Book Club to encourage literacy and help children develop their reading skills. Whenever someone sells an item of clothing through our Golden Service, we will include a free book along with the sale. The book will be hand-selected by our team and appropriate for the age range of the child.

Encouraging a Community of Book Givers

Beyond the Golden Service, we are hoping that our inclusion of books encourages individual sellers to do the same and pass on books between the Cress community.

According to recent statistics, around 18% of children in the UK are unable to read before the age of 11. This is a concerning figure, as reading skills are fundamental to success in education and beyond.

Cress’ Book Scheme: Making a Positive Impact

With our Book Scheme, we hope to play a small part in improving these statistics and helping more children develop their reading skills. By combining our Golden Service with our Book Club, we aim to offer a unique and valuable service to our customers. Not only can you have your preloved clothes sold on your behalf, but you can also give back to the community and help improve children’s literacy skills.

In summary, at Cress, we believe that books have the power to transform lives, and we are excited to launch our Book Scheme to help encourage literacy and improve children’s reading skills. With our Golden Service, we will continue to provide a high-quality and convenient service for our customers while also making a positive impact in the lives of children.
